Biographical history

The Ymir-Salmo Pastoral Charge in Kootenay Presbytery was created in 1936 and dissolved in 1952. The congregations at Ymir, Salmo and Sheep Creek, primarily mining communities, constituted the charge. Presbyterians and Methodists had established work in Ymir in ca. 1898. Ymir and Salmo was a student mission field of the Presbyterian Church until union, while, according to yearbook statistics, Methodist activity in Ymir lapsed around 1909. From 1928 to 1936 Ymir and Salmo were points in the East Trail Pastoral Charge. After dissolution of Ymir-Salmo Pastoral Charge, all three congregations were attached to the new Fruitvale Pastoral Charge. Salmo became a separate charge in 1959, while the congregations at Ymir and Sheep Creek appear to have closed either in the 1950s or 1960s.
