    Biographical history

The Wright family lived in Peel County (Ontario). The family was active in the Wesleyan-Methodist Church. Wesley R. Wright (d. 1911) was a farmer and community leader who served on the County Council of the County of Peel as Warden of Toronto Township.

    Custodial history

The records were in the custody of Arthur and Alice Leighton in their house on Hammond Bay Road (Nanaimo). Alice Leighton was the daughter of Wesley R. Wright. The records were subsequently in the custody of Dr. Seiriol Williams, who purchased the Leighton house. They were donated to the archives via the Nanaimo Historical Society.

    Scope and content

The fonds consists of correspondence inwards (1859-1900), Wesleyan-Methodist church class books and family photographs. Early correspondence relates to family matters. Later correspondence is addressed primarily to W.R. Wright relating to his career in local politics. Fonds includes church "class books" (1838?-1846), listing many members of the Thomas Wright family. Fonds is arranged in three series: 1) Correspondence; 2) Church class books; 3) Family photographs.
