Founded in 1863, the Victoria Chamber of Commerce was incorporated in 1878 as the British Columbia Board of Trade. From 1902 until 1921 it was known as the Victoria, British Columbia Board of Trade, when it again became the Victoria Chamber of Commerce.

Biographical history

Founded in 1863, the Victoria Chamber of Commerce was incorporated in 1878 as the British Columbia Board of Trade. Its purpose was to promote commercial interests in British Columbia. In 1902, the Board changed its name to the Victoria, British Columbia, Board of Trade. In 1921 it again became the Victoria Chamber of Commerce.

Scope and content

The fonds includes the following series: minutes, index to minutes, scrapbooks, cashbook, committee reports, index to committee reports, ledger, monthly journal, annual reports, annual meeting programs, bylaws, photographs and publications. Also included are minutes and cashbook of the British Columbia Board of Trade Building Association, an organization established in 1892 to fund construction of the Board of Trade building in Bastion Square. Photographs consist of images of the Eaton Centre construction.
