Biographical history
The idea of a Vernon-Okanagan Industrial Exposition originated in 1947 among a group of community-spirited men to advertise the resources, attractions, and possibilities of the region in order to attract secondary industry. The exposition was held each spring from 1947-1949 on the site of the military camp, Camp Vernon. In 1949, a permanent home was sought in the drill halls at Camp Vernon. The exorbitant insurance costs plus falling attendance spelled the end for the exposition.
Custodial history
Scope and content
Fonds consists of the financial records (2 bank books) of the Vernon-Okanagan Industrial Exposition Association from 1947-1948. One bank book contains the debits and credits of the association's Bank of Montreal account. No explanations for all incoming and outgoing monies are listed. The second book is for the Association's CIBC account. This book is set up like an account ledger, separating various categories in order to track the monies collected and spent through each. Includes accounts for the rental of commercial space, advertising, car ticket sales, gate receipts, program sales, treasury chest accounts, miscellaneous expenses, and food concessions.
