Biographical history
In 1919, the City of Vernon purchased, for the purpose of an airport and airstrip, approximately 130 acres of land on Mission Hill directly east of Camp Vernon. The land cost 4500 dollars and was financed through a bond issue. The airfield was used by the public until the beginning of World War II when the Dept. of National Defence purchased the property in order to construct huts in that area. In 1946, city council was authorized to purchase land between Okanagan Landing Road and Tronson Road to construct an airport and airstrip which is still in use.
