        History

The creation of the Vancouver Vocational Institute was part of the post-war expansion of public education institutions in the province. The provincial government was giving priority to employment training.

The Vancouver Vocational Institute was designed by the architectural firm Sharp Thompson Berwick and Pratt and built between 1948 and 1950.

In 1965, the Vancouver Vocational Institute, the Vancouver School of Art, and the King Edward Continuing Education Centre amalgamated to form Vancouver Community College.
