        History

The Victoria College Alma Mater Society (AMS) was established after the founding of Victoria College in 1902. The name was changed to the University of Victoria Alma Mater Society in 1963, when Victoria College became the University of Victoria. In 1988 the name changed again to the University of Victoria Student's Union, although it is also referred to as the University of Victoria Students' Society (UVSS). The AMS has been a legally incorporated body of students which coordinates student activities, promotes student welfare, and represents students to the University and the community.
