        Grant and Elizabeth Thorburn operated hotels in Vancouver, Prince Rupert and Vernon before purchasing the Tzouhalem Hotel in Duncan, B.C. Grant Thorburn managed the hotel until 1930. From 1930 to 1953, Elizabeth Thorburn acted as manager. After her death, Donald Butt, a son-in-law, took over as manager. The Thorburn's had two daughters, Helen Butt and Teresa Ashton.
