        Charles McDowall Smyth was born in England and moved to Nova Scotia where he worked as an engineer. In WWI he was with the Canadian Engineers and was awarded the Military Medal, the Victory Medal and the Coronation Medal. Smyth was later President of the Association of Canadian Engineers in Nova Scotia.
