    Biographical history

    The Saanich Pioneers' Society operates the museum and archives at Saanichton. The society promotes the preservation of the historical record of the Saanich peninsula by acquiring, preserving and making accessible artifacts, archival records and historical reference material. The west coast telegraph line was built from Victoria to Cape Beal in 1900. Bamfield became the terminus for the trans-Pacific telegraph cable.

    Records were previously a part of MS-2538 and MS-0077 at the British Columbia Archives before their return to the Saanich Pioneers' Society in January 2004.

    Scope and content

    The fonds consists of minute books (1923-1986), register of the first annual reunion banquet of Saanich pioneers (1929), worklog of construction of the Log Cabin Museum (1933), records of the Pioneers Social (1933-1969), and autographs of Saanich pioneers attending a reception at Bannockburn, 1928.
