Biographical history

Roger Joseph Bishop was born in Vancouver. He served as Head of the Department of English at the Victoria College/University of Victoria from 1945 to 1967, and continued to teach in the department until his retirement.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of records documenting Bishop's career as Head of the Department of English at the University of Victoria and the events surrounding the tenure crisis of the mid-1960s, as well as his activities on various university committees and off-campus organizations. Fonds includes correspondence, minutes of meetings, reports, copies of legislation relating to education, addresses, speeches and essays, booklets, broadsides, college calendars, newsclippings and genealogical material on the Bishop family.
