        History

        Lemuel Fergus Robertson (1878‐1956) was born in Prince Edward Island and received his B.A. (1899) and M.A. in Classics from McGill University. He came to Vancouver first in 1899 to teach at Vancouver College and he helped guide the evolution of that institution into McGill University College of B.C. When the University of British Columbia opened in 1915, Robertson was the senior member of the Classics department and became head in 1920. Robertson retired in 1941 and was awarded an honorary degree by UBC.
