Administrative history
The Richmond Summer Games Society was incorporated as a society on January 8, 1979 with the purpose to establish, host, conduct and promote the 1979 British Columbia Summer Games, which were held in Richmond August 2-5, 1979. As part of its mandate, the Society was required to raise funds for the operation of the Games, as well as to promote sports and athletics, and plan all aspects of the Games, including athletic and social events. The Society received an operating grant from the provincial government, which included a $70 000 legacy that it resolved to use to create a trust fund administered by the City of Richmond and intended to assist athletes traveling to championship events. The affairs of the Society were managed by a Board of Directors. Directors included: Irene Vennard, President; Darryl Dyck, Administration; Bob Gourlay, Promotion and Public Relations; Jim Webb, Security and Medical; George Mavety, Sports; Barb Greczmiel, Ceremonies; Robbie Johnson, Local Transportation and Communications; Barry Freeman, Accommodations and Food Services. The Society was dissolved on January 29, 1980.
