Biographical history

Rebecca Watson was born in Vancouver, and after teacher training she taught for one year in the Cariboo. She returned to Vancouver to train as a nurse at the Vancouver General Hospital, graduating in 1932. In 1958 she became well known for her participation in the Save Our Parklands Association to protect the old Shaughnessy golf course from redevelopment. She was elected to the Park Board in 1968, and was an active member of the Vancouver Resources Board. Watson was an executive member of The Electors Action Movement (TEAM), and was president of the Progressive Conservative Party of British Columbia in 1971. She served on the West End Community Resources Board and the Community Association. In recognition of her many civic activities, the City of Vancouver entered her name in the Civic Merit Board of Honour.

The fonds consists of correspondence, memos and reports reflecting Rebecca Watson's civic and political concerns while serving on various committees, including TEAM, the Progressive Conservative Party of British Columbia, the Vancouver Resources Board, the Community Resources Board, the West End Community Association, the False Creek Development, the Parks Board, and the Board of Trade.
