Biographical history

Pierce Memorial United Church began as the Methodist Kispiox Indian Mission. The first Methodist services were held in Kispiox in 1878. The first Methodist Church was built in the early 1900s. Kispiox Mission became part of the United Church during the ministry of Rev. V. Sansum (1924-1927). In 1945 Kispiox United Church was destroyed in a fire and Pierce Memorial United Church was built in 1949. For many years the Kispiox church work was part of the Hazelton Pastoral Charge.

Fonds consists of records from Kispiox Methodist Church, Kispiox United Church and Pierce Memorial United Church. Records include Baptismal registers (1895-1976), Marriage registers (1916-1952), Burial records (1914-1950); Circuit registers (1895-1954); Official Board minutes (1925-1988), Congregational meeting minutes (1934-1988); Sunday School Attendance roll (1915-1937); Land claims (1915-1958), Lay supply (1963-1974), Church redevelopment planning (1984-1987); Financial record book (1914-1949), Cash book (1960-1966), Renovation fund (1968-1972); and Annual reports (1927-1982).
