    Biographical history

    James Noel McConnell owned and operated Steveston PhotoCrafts, and later Richmond Photo, taking photographs of Steveston and Richmond for over 20 years. Noel, well known for taking class photos in Richmond schools, was also very active in the community. At various times he was: a founding member and president of the Steveston Community Society, a member of the Richmond Advisory Planning Committee, as well as an avid gardener, nature lover and conservationist.

    Custodial history

    These original negatives were in the possession of Ruby McConnell, widow of the late James Noel McConnell.

    Scope and content

    Fonds consists of 99 original photograph negatives, and copy prints, taken by Noel McConnell in the course of his activities as a professional photographer in Steveston and Richmond. The photographs are primarily aerial views showing Steveston as it appeared in the late 1940s and early 1950s, and includes extensive views of the Steveston waterfront and townsite, as well as views of the Eburne / Marpole areas, Brighouse / Town Centre, and various schools.
