Records management and collecting policies
The Archives collects records related to the history, growth and development of the City of New Westminster. The holdings consist of public records created by the municipal government, such as City Council minutes, annual reports, maps, blueprints, and records created by City Departments. The private record holdings include records created by individuals, families, businesses, and organizations reflecting the social, political, cultural and economic life of the city from the 1860’s.
There is a photograph collection of approximately 50,000 images. There is also reference material available in the reading room. This includes 4,000 “people files,” which are organized by surname and a collection of building files organized by address. The Archives also has a small reference library
