Greenwell and John B.Greenwell; information circulars from the Workmen's Compensation Board, the Unemployment Insurance Commission and the New Vancouver Coal Mining and Land Company; Thomas Aitken's Sick and Accident fund passbook from the Western Fuel Corporation; Certificates of Competency for Thomas and Isaac Aitken; copies of the Constitution of the International Union of the United Mine Worker's of America, the Wage Agreement between Canadian Collieries and UMWA, District No. 18 and a copy of the I.C.S. Coal Miner's Handbook; a handbill for a union meeting, a medical certificate for Isaac; and a small notebook that records cheques sent and received and various other items. Fonds consists of reproduced maps and reports, annotated by Addison, related to the Blue Flame Mine. Includes a copy of a portion of the G.H. Clapp report on gas formations in the Nanaimo Basin (1912), a copy of the Wilkinson report of Morden Mine and area (1920), a copy of a drilling report of the Big Flame Mine, and copies of sketches Addison made in 1969 of the stratigraphy in the area around the Blue Flame Mine.

Collection consists of Albert Hitchen's pay statements for work in the Northfield Mine (Canadian Collieries (Dunsmuir) Ltd.). Statements show gross wages less deductions for such items as coal, doctor, hospital fund, income tax, national defence tax and union dues.

Fonds consists of one volume that lists daily tonnage totals, amount of coal and rock per ton, number of miners, timbering and other statistics related to the extraction of coal. Volume also includes total annual tonnages for 1952 and 1953. Annual tonnage totals are comparable to the totals given in the Minister of Mines Annual Reports for 1952 and 1953 and confirm the volume's provenance.

Collection consists of correspondence and notes, compiled by Fred Taylor, related to the City of Nanaimo's acquisition of an old steam coal mine whistle from Air Chime Manufacturing Company. The coal mine whistle was blown every day in Nanaimo to announce shift changes and other mining related events. Includes a report on chain of title of various local mining companies and council minutes relating to Fred Taylor's role as negotiator of the whistle's return to Nanaimo. Also includes two photographs of Fred Taylor and Mayor Gary Korpan with whistle.

Robert Carruthers fonds

Fonds consists of three plans indicating the workings of the Louden-Wakelem slopes and Carruthers slopes of Wellington #9 mine from 1949 until 1964. The latest is incomplete but does include a manuscript schematic drawing of Nanaimo mine locations. Copies of Mr. Carruthers miner's certificates, copies of newspaper articles written about Mr. Carruthers upon his retirement and his textbooks on mining are also included. A number of these are from the International Correspondence School (ICS). Also included are two Special Rules booklets that outline the rules and regulations of Western Fuel Company mines in Nanaimo and descriptions of various mine jobs (shotlighter, bratticemen, loaders etc.).

Collection consists of a a receipt from E.J. Wilson to Western Fuel Corporation for labour and materials used in the installation of water connection at the Wilson home at 395 Ninth Street, a booklet detailing the agreement between the Corporation and its employees (1927) and a booklet detailing the agreement between corporation employees and Dr. George A.B. Hall (1921). A manuscript annotation on the verso of the booklet reads "Exhibit No. 1 Hall vs. Lane, June 28/22, A. Forrester, Re[g]."
