    Biographical history

Parish work opened in the Lakes District around 1912. St. Luke's Church was opened at Francois Lake in 1915 while St. John's Church, Burns Lake, the centre of the Mission, opened in 1919. From the start the parish included several smaller communities in the district. By 1940 the parish of Endako with Fraser Lake was added to the Burns Lake parish. In the early 1950's Endako and Fraser Lake were again separated from Burns Lake. By 1956 Fort Fraser and Willowvale were added to Endako. By 1963 Endako and its associated points had been rejoined to Burns Lake under the name, Mission to Lakes District. Around 1966, St. Clement's, Houston was added to the Mission. The parish's extent of responsibilities decreased in the mid-1970's with the transfer of Endako, Fort Fraser and Fraser Lake to Vanderhoof Regional Parish and Houston to the parish of Bulkley Valley. In 1981 the communities of Granisle and Topley were removed from the Mission and combined with Houston into a new parish. Currently, the parish includes St. John's, Burns Lake, St. Luke's, Francois Lake as well as congregations at Colleymount and Southside.
