History

Dr. Ray McIlwain graduated from medical school at Queen’s University in 1973. After completing his internship at Vancouver General Hospital, he was recruited by Dr. Don Watt, Director of United Church Health Services, to work at the R.W. Large Memorial Hospital at Bella Bella, British Columbia. In 1981, after further training in family medicine, anaesthesia, and surgery, he and his family moved to Bella Coola, B.C. He later served as Director of United Church Health Services from 2001 until his retirement in 2004.
