The report was donated to the Fort Steele Heritage Town archives by the B. C. Forest Service, Victoria, B.C., so it can be assumed that the study was commissioned by them.

This fonds consists of one series titled: "Reconnaissance of the East Kootenay Valley". The paper is a survey of the topography, climate and soil conditions, tree species, land settlement, and land accessibility of the East Kootenay valley.
