Biographical history

The Dictionary of Canadian English was published in 1967 under the auspices of the Lexicographical Centre of Canadian English at the University of Victoria. The Centre had been previously located at the University of Calgary. The Survey of Canadian English was directed by Dr. Scargill of the University of Victoria with regional directors being appointed from each province. Funds were obtained in 1971 and the results of the survey were published in the "English Quarterly" in 1972. The Centre was also involved in the revision of the "Canadian Dictionary" (1962), with Dr. Vinay as Editor-in-Chief. To date "CD2" remains unpublished.
