    Biographical history

The Lantzville Hotel and Garage was operated by Abel Caillet and his family from 1925 to 1974. Caillet was born in 1897 in France and emigrated to Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan, in 1910. Caillet later moved to B.C. where he cooked for construction camps on the Kettle Valley Railway, and his mother Rosa opened the Lantzville Hotel and Garage, assisted by the family. The Hotel service travellers, and resident miners, loggers and survey crews, and provided repairs for automobiles and small appliances. Caillet also operated a beef ranch, bought and sold under the name Caillet Holdings, and was an active member of the Liberal Party. In 1972, Caillet became ill, and his son Armand Caillet and family took over operation of the business. Abel Caillet died in 1976.
