              Edgar Dunning fonds

              The fonds consists of Mr. Dunning's family and business records; records accumulated as a member of various community organizations; and documents, manuscripts, and photographs resulting from Edgar's work for the Delta newspaper, the Optimist, and his interest in Delta community events and history. Family records include correspondence and legal records regarding the property on 48th Avenue and Delta Street, as well as financial and educational certificates. A large series of memorabilia includes invitations and other ephemera, which Edgar accumulated as publisher and reporter for the Optimist and as active community member. Business records are largely from the Optimist printing business, and include examples of print products such as invitations, programs, letterheads, tickets, municipal reports, etc., which were printed for local people and businesses of Delta. A small series of Optimist newspaper records include lists of subscribers from the 1940s. The fonds includes a sample of Edgar's writings for the Optimist on historical topics, plus a larger group of manuscripts that have been edited by him in his capacity as editor of the Optimist and as an interested and knowledgeable local historian. The fonds also consists of minutes of meetings, correspondence, reports, etc. accumulated by Edgar as a member of the Delta Community Band, various centennial committees, the Delta Historical and Museum Society, and other organizations. Edgar is a talented amateur photographer, and his photograph collection reflects his work as a reporter and his interest in the people and events of Delta.               Fonds consists of correspondence, financial records, certificates, school workbooks, two small watercolour paintings, and photographs. The material is about MacInnis family events and relationships, and the activities and accomplishments of individual family members. The fonds has been arranged according to the family member responsible for receiving or creating the records: Martin and Margaret MacInnis, Jessie MacInnis, Carlyle MacInnis, and John William Fraser. A fifth series contains an account book of the Brackman-Ker Milling Company.

              The fonds consists of correspondence, clippings, World War II memorabilia, marriage and baptismal certificates, financial records, and genealogical notes belonging to members of the Trevitt and Gillanders families. The fonds also consists of correspondence related to the establishment of the Trevitt marina at Deas Slough, and minutes (1975-1977), financial records and correspondence of the Delta Historical and Museum Society.               The fonds consists of John Muir's legal and business papers, and correspondence, particularly related to renting the Deloraine properties; legal papers and correspondence regarding the probate of John Muir's Estate, particularly between lawyers and Agnes Muir, his daughter; and letters to Agnes from family members. The fonds also includes a collection of papers and memorabilia belonging to Eva Muir, including a collection of songbooks and song sheets. Records that Eva accumulated as an officer in the Ladner Dugout Committee and Red Cross Society are described in these respective fonds.               Fonds consists of a ledger and photocopies of William Ladner's crown grants to land in Delta. The ledger was used for several purposes between 1870 and 1887 which reflect some of the several roles William played in the community: farmer, school district trustee, and police magistrate. The ledger contains copies of minutes of meetings of Trenant School District trustees held in 1874, the earliest existing records for the Delta school district.

              The fonds consists largely of correspondence and financial records that pertain to Thomas Ladner's business ventures in salmon canning and farming. Thomas Ladner's correspondence April 28, 1892 to November 11, 1896 (of which this archives holds photocopies) is made up of letters sent to Robert Paterson Rithet, Ladner's agent and business partner in the Victoria Canning Co. Ltd. The financial records largely concern Thomas' farming operation, of which the ledger of 1919-1924 provides the most complete documentation. Also included in the fonds are historical notes written by Leon Ladner and Yvonne Killam about the Thomas Ladner family, and photographs of Thomas Ladner, his immediate family and descendants, his farm, and Ladner family friends and activities.

              The fonds consists of a 1990 paper for an anthropology class entitled "An Analysis of Artifacts Salvaged from Ladner's Chinatown" and a 1992 report about an archaeological dig of Ladner's Chinatown entitled "Dragon Harvest." Also includes a photograph album titled "A Decade in Ladner (1979-1989)", photographs and montages of Ladner's Chinatown and a sketch of the area by Robin Hooper.

              Textual records consist of legal records belonging to A.R. Leary including land deeds, mortgage papers, and fire insurance policies. The fonds also includes British Columbia history and geography textbooks, newspaper clippings, a June 3, 1948 issue of the Ladner Optimist, school certificates, a short history of Vancouver, May Day raffle tickets, rules and regulations of the Grand Black Chapter of Ireland, programs, receipts, notebooks, correspondence, etc. It also contains genealogical notes on the Leary family compiled by Mabel MacNamara and Laura Miller. The fonds includes photographs of men during the gold rush, Knickerbocker's Barber Shop, schools and students, Ladner Ferry, World War I tanks, logging, canneries, ferries, etc. as well as photographs of various members of the Leary family.

              The collection consists of copy prints and negatives created and assembled by Ken Young as a research project which he did as a student at the University of British Columbia. The collection consists of copies of original photographs taken of the Delta area of British Columbia between 1880 and 1950, including buildings and street scenes in Ladner, Port Guichon, Westham Island, and Annieville, as well as some scenes of Victoria. The collection includes photographs of family homes, barns, businesses, ferries and boats, as well as formal portraits, social scenes, and photographs of people at work fishing, farming, and in the milk and fish canneries. Also included are family trees, correspondence, and clippings.
