    Biographical history

    The Kaatza Art Group was formed in October of 1970 when an informal meeting was held. Carol Rettig was the 1st president and Blanche Whittingham was secretary. The 1st official meeting was October 26, 1970. The following were appointed: Evelyn Anderson, Program Convenor; Muriel Nimmo, Refreshment Comm.; Joan Manwell, Peggy Roberts, Ev Wains & Connie Walker, Hanging Comm.; Pat Foster & Maude Connelly, Phoning Comm. The 1st members were Connie Walker, Carol Rettig, Blanche Whittingham, Maude Connelly, Evelyn Wains, Peggy Roberts, Joan Manwell, Evelyn Anderson, Muriel Nimmo, Pat Foster, Mary Watson, Goldie Money, Julie Osokin & Marg MacQuarrie. It was decided at this meeting to take part in the Community Bazaar to make money for the club. From this, they decided to have their own art show in th fall, which was held on Oct. 7-8, 1971. Over the years an annual art show has been held, ussually in the spring. On the first morning of the show it is opened to local schools, so that the students can visit. Bursaries have been presented to deserving art students, an art library was established at the local public library and many guest artists and teachers have shared their talents. The Kaatza Art Group are members of the Cowichan Valley Arts Council and continue to operate.
