    Biographical history

Henry Humphrey Jones was born in Newtonville, Ontario, and came to Victoria in 1898, intending to continue on to the Klondike to search for gold. Instead he stopped in Victoria and worked as a furniture salesman for Weiler Brothers for four years. He then opened his own business engaging in brokerage, real estate, mining and timber. In the 1920s he took up a gold mining claim in the Lillooet district, but that operation was wiped out by fire in 1947, taking all of Jones' assets with it. He lived for a time in the United States and died in Victoria in 1954.
