    Biographical history

    John Savannah was born in San Francisco, USA. He came to Victoria in the 1880s where he opened a photographic studio. He worked as a commercial photographer until his death in 1925. He was survived by his wife Maud, daughter Elizabeth and son Edward. Edward, in addition to his work as a teacher, worked as a photographer in his father's photographic studio in the years following his father's death.

    The fonds consists of portrait photographs of various identified and unidentified individuals. Photographs appear to have been primarily taken by John Savannah though some may have been taken by his son Edward.
