Biographical history

John Edward Brant was a descendant of Mohawks of the Six Nations tribe near Brantford, Ontario. He was born in 1894 to John Ojijatekha Brant-Sero and Mary McGrath Sero in the County of Blackburn, Lancashire. Brant worked as a butcher in Yorkshire, and then joined the Royal Navy in 1912. He married Mabel Anderson in 1919 in the County of York, and Elsie Christie in Niagara Falls, Ontario on May 12, 1955, and died three years later on February 11, 1958. Elsie later moved to Victoria B.C., and became a member of the B.C. Indian Arts and Welfare Society.
