The fonds consists of three subgroups: Wallace Street Methodist Church (Nanaimo, B.C.) subgroup, including records of the Nanaimo Circuit and of Ebenezer Wesleyan Methodist Church, which continued as Nanaimo Methodist Church and Wallace St. Methodist Church; St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church (Nanaimo, B.C.) subgroup; and St. Andrew's United Church (Nanaimo, B.C.) subgroup. Records series of Wallace St. Methodist Church (Nanaimo, B.C.) subgroup consist of Quarterly Official Board minutes (1860-1925); Trustees minutes (1860-1883, 1886-1926); and financial records (1909-1925). Records of the Sunday School (1916-1925) and the Young Ladies' Club (1924-1925) are continued by the United Church and are included in St. Andrew's United Church subgroup. Record series of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church (Nanaimo, B.C.) subgroup consist of minutes of congregational meetings (1886-1911), Board of Managers (1886-1897, 1900-1944), session (1892-1911), and Woman's Missionary Society Auxiliary (1924-1925). In all cases, there is a distinct break between these records and similar series for St. Andrew's United Church. Record series of St. Andrew's United Church (Nanaimo, B.C.) include minutes of congregational meetings (1926-1966), Official Board (1925-1966), Session (1925-1934, 1953-1966), and Stewards (1925-1966); records of Sunday School (1925-1952), various women's organizations (1925-1967), and a young people's organization 1935-1943); and scrapbooks of press clippings (1932-1938).

James Hawthornthwaite fonds

Fonds consists primarily of incoming correspondence addressed to Hawthornthwaite in his capacity as a Member of the Legislative Assembly from his constituents and other residents of British Columbia. The fonds contains a file consisting of legislative bills, resolutions, and acts tabled during Hawthornthwaite's tenure in the Provincial Parliament and other records that Hawthornthwaite made or received in the course of his service to the people of Nanaimo, as well as published records of the legislative assembly of British Columbia for the years 1909 and 1910. The fonds also contains: a certificate for Hawthornthwaite's share in the Western Socialist Publishing Company which published The Western Clarion, the newspaper of the Socialist Party of British Columbia; a postcard depicting Joseph Mairs, one of Hawthornthwaite's contemporaries in the Socialist Party of Canada; and a copy of a book titled The changing order: A study of democracy, given to Hawthornthwaite by his friend Harry Sibble.

Fonds consists of audio, video, and visual materials created by Basil and Edythe Hartley. Materials include video footage of the Haisla people, which Hartley shot while working in Kitimaat from 1941-1944, a voiceover for the footage which Hartley’s widow, Edythe McClure, created in ca. 1983, a letter, and three photographs of Kitimaat people and landscapes. The three audio cassettes all contain the same 1983 recording.

The fonds consists of a volume in which are recorded the accounts (1872-1904) of William Cartwright and the personal diary of daily activities (1882-1883) of Mary Cartwright. Volume also includes some poems and recipes. The original use of the volume appears to be the 1869 accounts of a general store, possibly the Horne Store. The accounts record many purchases by Chinese and Indians. Newsclippings (1913-1941) have been pasted over parts of the early 1869 accounts.

Wilson to Western Fuel Corporation for labour and materials used in the installation of water connection at the Wilson home at 395 Ninth Street, a booklet detailing the agreement between the Corporation and its employees (1927) and a booklet detailing the agreement between corporation employees and Dr. George A.B. Hall (1921). A manuscript annotation on the verso of the booklet reads "Exhibit No. 1 Hall vs. Lane, June 28/22, A. Forrester, Re[g]."
