The fonds consists of a Scrapbook, 1962-1968; a Baptismal record, 1938-1969; a Civil marriage register, 1937-1976; and a Communion roll, 1941-1954. The Communion roll was passed to a congregation, probably Tseshaht United Church, of which the students were members, and used as a record of those members of the congregation who were students at the School from 1954 to 1956.

The fonds consists of the personal records and research notes compiled by Bernie Fandrich as evidence in his legal defense suti against the Lytton Indian Band from 1983-1987. Includes personal correspondence (1983, 1985), a timeline of the suit (1973-1987), research notes (1860-1914, 1961-63) and photographs, maps, and all research notes and documents chronicling the construction of the Lytton-Lillooet highway and the Thompson River bridge, as well as the legal disposition of government and reserve lands in and around the Lytton area.

The fonds is comprised of photographs documenting the activities and concerns of the west coast fishing industry: fishing boats, fishing and fish processing, fish plants and canneries, special events related to the promotion of fish products, Adams River sockeye runs, traditional First Nations fisheries, sports fishing, research on salmon, salmon habitat destruction, and hatchery and fishways construction and operations. The pictures were taken all along the British Columbia coast from the San Juan fishing grounds on southwestern Vancouver Island to Prince Rupert. Included are photographs taken at salmon producing lakes and rivers in the interior of British Columbia. Some of the photographs originated at food shows in Europe and the Tokyo wholesale fish market. The fonds includes 12 films with fishing related topics plus a small amount of textual material related to the photographs.

Land Claims Campaign

The Land Claims Campaign was a five year project launched by the BC Conference in May 1991. It had the dual purposes of education and fundraising in support of Aboriginal land claims in the province. Education events addressed questions of land claims and self government. A fundraising goal of one million dollars was set with money raised used to provide grants to BC First Nations to assist with research, political negotiations, legal fees and other related land claims costs. Campaign funds were held in trust and dispersed on the recommendations of the Native Ministries Council of BC Conference (formerly known as the “Coastal Regional Group”); recipients included the Gitksan and Wet’suwet’en for their Supreme Court Case, Delgamuukw v. British Columbia.
Series includes records of donations and pledges, Land Claims Campaign Committee minutes and budgets, newsletters, information materials, and correspondence.

Walt Taylor fonds

This fonds illustrates Walt Taylor’s activities as a social activist in the Okanagan region of B.C. in the 1970s, and his involvement with political-environmental activist movements in the Bulkley Valley-Telkwa-Smithers area c.1980s-1990s. The Taylor fonds includes records of the Skeena Round Table for a Sustainable Society, the Northwest Study Conference Society and his Waging Peace Society as well as, background research compiled for Taylor’s publication Waging Peace for a Living: An Action Plan for survival of life on earth,(Victoria: Trafford Publishing, 1999). The Taylor fonds also contains records of significance relating to proposed economic developments, such as open-pit mining, fishing and forestry policies and nuclear power; and documents pertaining to political-environmental actions conducted by Northern BC stakeholders such as First Nations (Gitskan and Wet’su’wet’en) and NGO’s such as the Telkwa Educational Action Committee of Householders. Types of records comprising this fonds include correspondence to/from activist organizations; circulars to society members; background papers on social activist issues; background reports on BC First Nations environmental and land claims issues, background studies on environmental & economic impacts of industrial developments proposed for Northern BC, newspaper clippings, and various publications.

In 1976, a group of students from the Kyuquot Elementary, a First Nations elementary school on the West coast of Vancouver Island, decided to make a filmstrip that documented their lives in the fishing village. The children’s intention behind making these photographs was to raise money for a summer field trip to Victoria, Vancouver, and the Okanagan. As part of the fundraiser, the children made a visual map depicting their daily travel to school by boat and a hand-written order form for the film. Collection consists of documents created by the Kyuquot Elementary School and Mr. Moore, a former Assistant Professor of Anthropology in the 1970s. The collection consists of one correspondence letter written by Mr. Moore requesting a copy of their filmstrip, four pages of typewritten filmstrip descriptions, one handwritten map and flyer created by the Kyuquot Elementary School and one 70 frame color filmstrip that was digitized in 2017. [At the time of processing, it was unknown if the fundraiser was successful.]

Ronnie Tessler fonds

The fonds consists of photographs created by Ronnie Tessler from 1986 to 1987 documenting a canoe project by the Nisga’a carver Norman Tait. The project was abandoned in the summer of 1987, and the canoe was left uncompleted. The photographs depict models for the canoe, transportation of the log for the canoe to the Museum of Anthropology, ceremonies performed throughout the project, and various stages of work on the canoe and model. Additional photographs from the same period depict a totem pole raising at Capilano Mall in North Vancouver and portraits of Les Baker, a model Tait wanted to use for a “white man” mask.

The fonds consists of research files for his private consulting work, with some material by colleagues and students from the Centre for Public Sector Studies mixed in. Most of the files contain photocopies of studies and submission by native bands and organizations, government documents and reports, journal articles, brochures, and clippings. Many have been originally marked as attachments, but some of the number sequences are no longer complete. There are very few holograph markings or notes, and hardly any manuscript material.
