Al Neil collection
Collection · 1962 - 1994

The collection consists of audio and moving image recordings of performances by Al Neil and various musical ensembles that performed with him (Al Neil Trio, Al Neil Jazz Probe, Al Neil Quartet, and solo efforts). They include performances at the Vancouver School of Art, Simon Fraser University, The Western Front and others. The performances date from 1962 through 1989, although this collection contains CD and DVD copies (not the original recordings).


These copies were produced as part of the Al Neil Project, a 2005 collaborative effort between the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery, New Orchestra Workshop, Coastal Jazz and Blues Society and the grunt gallery.

Bob Kingsmill fonds

The fonds consists of correspondence, questionnaires, and photographs relating to Bob Kingsmill’s research for his book A Catalogue of British Columbia Potters (1978). In order to gather material for his book, Kingsmill created a questionnaire requesting information and photographs, which he sent to about 70 potters throughout British Columbia. The fonds consists mainly of the responses Kingsmill received, which include the completed questionnaires containing short biographical and artistic statements by each potter, together with black and white or colour photographs of the artists and their pottery.

The fonds comprises records created by Duke from approximately 1946 to 2006. They are related to all aspects of Duke’s life and career. Among other types of records, the fonds includes: drafts of Duke's articles, essays and speeches; personal and production photographs; annotated working scripts of various television and film productions; personal and administrative correspondence; legal records, personal and administrative correspondence pertaining to the takeover of CKVU-TV; awards; personal notes; journals; press clippings featuring work by and about Duke; ephemera collected by Duke; and audio/visual material.

The Gary Lee-Nova fonds is comprised of 20 notebooks that contain sketches, journal entries, mixed media creations, correspondence, notes on art techniques and personal artwork, and information related to exhibitions that have been created by Lee-Nova. Moreover, there are a large quantity of photographs including Polaroids of his work from the Harold Adams Innis and Herbert Marshall McLuhan Memorial Sculpture Exhibit; photographs from his work with Art City to build a kiosk and transport it to various areas in Vancouver; and a series of colour photographs from his exhibit work titled “Different points of view on some properties of media: Harold Adams Innis and Herbert Marshall McLuhan Memorial Sculpture”; and finally an acetate photograph booklet representing an art project by Lee-Nova. This fonds also contains material kept by Lee-Nova such as an article in Vancouver Magazine, an exhibition catalogue from the Glenbow Alberta Institute, and a poetry newsletter published by Vancouver monthly.
