The collection consists of audio and moving image recordings of performances by Al Neil and various musical ensembles that performed with him (Al Neil Trio, Al Neil Jazz Probe, Al Neil Quartet, and solo efforts). They include performances at the Vancouver School of Art, Simon Fraser University, The Western Front and others. The performances date from 1962 through 1989, although this collection contains CD and DVD copies (not the original recordings).


These copies were produced as part of the Al Neil Project, a 2005 collaborative effort between the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery, New Orchestra Workshop, Coastal Jazz and Blues Society and the grunt gallery.

The fonds consist of materials that relate to Twigg’s work as a writer, publisher and co-founder of the B.C. Book Prizes in the years 1975 to 2008. Materials include incoming and outgoing correspondence, taped television interviews, transcripts of television interviews, drafts of Twigg’s literary works, unpublished manuscript of George Woodcock’s translation of Proust, audio cassette interviews, transcripts of interviews, photographs, banners, awards, legal documents, financial records, notes and newspaper and magazine clippings of Twigg’s published articles.

The fonds is arranged into 3 series: Community publications; Altman family files; and Music collection which consists of scores of both Jewish and general popular songs that bear the name of Sari Corbin.

The fonds consists of records relating to the planning, administrative, fundraising, promotional, documentary and curatorial activities of the Artropolis exhibitions. These materials include: budgets, grant applications, proposals, research files and site plans; correspondence, financial statements, fundraising letters, logos, licenses and contracts, employee and volunteer files, minutes and reports; press releases and sponsorship agreements, banners, brochures and posters; and artists’ résumés and applications, attendance records, comment books, exhibition catalogues, scrapbooks, photo albums, photographs, video recordings, and artwork.

The fonds consists of photographs of scenes, streets, and group portraits in Vancouver, B.C., of Bailey Brothers Company and the firm of Bailey and Neelands.

The fonds consists of correspondence, questionnaires, and photographs relating to Bob Kingsmill’s research for his book A Catalogue of British Columbia Potters (1978). In order to gather material for his book, Kingsmill created a questionnaire requesting information and photographs, which he sent to about 70 potters throughout British Columbia. The fonds consists mainly of the responses Kingsmill received, which include the completed questionnaires containing short biographical and artistic statements by each potter, together with black and white or colour photographs of the artists and their pottery.

Fonds consists of materials accumulated during the editorial process of putting together Boo. The fonds consists of hand-written notes as well as published articles relating to artists in Canada between the early 17th century and the late 20th century. The fonds also consists of copies of correspondence between artists, as well as Walkers own correspondence with artists and the artistic world in general, both inside and outside Canada. The fonds consists of the following series and is largely arranged in its original order. 1) Canadian Artists 2) Records relating to Dear Nan: Letters to Emily Carr, Nan Cheney, and Humphrey Toms 3) Photographs.

The fonds consists of textual and graphic materials relating to the development of Metcalfe's art projects and themes, including Leopard Realty and Banal Beauty Inc.; photographs and clippings documenting Metcalfe's works; and materials sent and received through Metcalfe's participation in several Mail Art networks, including Fluxus West, General Idea and Image Bank.

Fonds consist of Gary Lee Novas correspondence activities. Includes correspondence received and sent to friends, artists and institutions; correspondence between Art Rat and Dr. Brute; The Dead Letter Funeral mail art project; and, Gary Lee Novas copy of the Space Ace Atlas mail art project.

The Gary Lee-Nova fonds is comprised of 20 notebooks that contain sketches, journal entries, mixed media creations, correspondence, notes on art techniques and personal artwork, and information related to exhibitions that have been created by Lee-Nova. Moreover, there are a large quantity of photographs including Polaroids of his work from the Harold Adams Innis and Herbert Marshall McLuhan Memorial Sculpture Exhibit; photographs from his work with Art City to build a kiosk and transport it to various areas in Vancouver; and a series of colour photographs from his exhibit work titled “Different points of view on some properties of media: Harold Adams Innis and Herbert Marshall McLuhan Memorial Sculpture”; and finally an acetate photograph booklet representing an art project by Lee-Nova. This fonds also contains material kept by Lee-Nova such as an article in Vancouver Magazine, an exhibition catalogue from the Glenbow Alberta Institute, and a poetry newsletter published by Vancouver monthly.

Fonds consists of radio play-scripts and production scripts by David Brock, Peter Garvie, John Gray, Peter Haworth, Daryl Hine, Herbert Hosie, Betty Lambert, Robert Lowell, Gerald Newman, Norman Newton, Jean Racine, George Ryga, George Robertson, Frederick Spoerly, Ian Thorne, and George Woodcock and incidental music score manuscripts for two productions. Audio-cassettes are line-source copies of master tapes of drama radio programs and music radio programs produced by Gerald Newman.

The fonds consists of correspondence (inward and outward), daily calendars, manuscripts and working papers, Canada Council applications and correspondence, personal papers (including diaries of travels, tax records, notebooks, and copies of Gilbert's writings in his high school newspaper), and reference files and material. The fonds includes records (manuscripts, correspondence, etc.) of Gilbert's literary journal, "B.C. Monthly", and records including photographs) of the New Era Social Club, an artists' studio/living space in Vancouver; and audiotapes of radiofreerainforest shows.

This fonds consists of textual records, photographs, negatives, slides, audio recordings, compact discs and video on DVD that relate to Kovanic’s academic and film career. The fonds relates especially to her work in Pakistan, India and Afghanistan, but also captures her work with First Nations on the Northwest coast of British Columbia.
