CA CVIC Series CRS-16 · 1882-1998
Part of City of Victoria fonds

Series consists of annual reports of the City. The first annual report was issued in 1882. Reports up to 1950 generally include statements by the Mayor, heads of various departments, and committees outlining the past years' events, sometimes in considerable detail. The reports from 1951 to 1957 and 1959 include a summary of the activities of the different departments. For subsequent years only summary financial information is provided.
Clerk's copies for 1927-1957 include typed sheets listing names and positions of some officers and employees that are not included in the published version. For some years, these lists include committee members as well.
"File" numbers provided in the file listing are not original. They refer to numbers given by the Archives to bound volumes (or, for draft copies, folders) for internal inventory control.
Provenance information has been taken from stamps on reports or on volume covers. Where given in square brackets, this information has been inferred from other volumes with similar binding and complementary date ranges which do have stamps

Engineering

Series consists of plumbing and sewer connection applications pertaining to buildings that no longer exist in their original location, having been demolished, moved, or burned (applications pertaining to existing buildings are in the custody of the Engineering Department).

There are six different kinds of records in this series, all of them used (and filed) together in administering plumbing and sewerage connection applications: Application to connect with sewer; Application to construct plumbing; Application to connect with public surface drains; Application to connect with public surface drains or septic tank; Application to connect with holding tank; and Application to connect house sewers temporarily to public surface water drains. Each application consists of a form and a basic plan of the structure (on linen). The plans show the location of the bathroom(s) and kitchen and indicate where the house plumbing connects to the main sewer. Some applications contain more detailed plans showing elevations, alterations, and additions, as well as correspondence.
Filed alphabetically by street name and then in numeric order by address.
The first application to connect to the sewer was made on 1 December 1892.

The design of the forms and the information collected changed over time. Sample data elements for several periods are provided below.
