Photograph depicts the view from the side of Jack Henderson-Roe's log cabin. A mountain and forests form the background; a home-made toboggan leans against the side of the cabin. Reads on verso as follows : "View looking towards my Western boundary which lies just this side of the distant hill. Taken after a heavy thaw, hence the patches of bare earth on the southern shapes of the hill. A home-made toboggan in this foreground. (8)".

Photograph depicts a snow-covered road through the forest lined with fallen trees. Reads on verso as follows : "A road through the brush. All these trees had to be sawn up by hand and removed after one day's strong autumnal gale. This may make you appreciate English roads better! (1)" Other writing crossed out, but reads, among other things, "Taken Dec 21/1912".

Taken during the excessive cold weather we experienced early in January.
