Keith Macgowan fonds

The fonds consists of holograph correspondence written primarily to his mother from the trenches and war front in Europe, together with a typescript transcription of the letters; a photograph of Macgowan with (apparently) two members of his battalion; programme for a Brussels Ball; clippings; and 11 maps used by Macgowan to direct his troops in battle. Also included are aerial photographs of three regions of north-west France together with a map of north-west France (Denain region). Some of the photographs have holograph additions to them, largely for the purpose of identification of towns or other significant features.

Laszlo Hudec fonds

The fonds consists of approximately 550 presentation drawings, sketches, conceptual drawings, working drawings, technical drawings (inclusive of blueprints), travel sketches and photographs. These include exterior and interior renderings of plans and designs for work produced in both Europe and in China. The architectural collection consists of works by Hudec and two other unknown authors. The work of Hudec is transcribed in English, German and Chinese characters. The work of the unknown authors is transcribed in Hungarian and German. There are also 2 boxes of textual records including notes, notebooks, photo albums, documents, letters, memos, scrapbooks, photos, legal records, rare journals, and newspapers clippings.

The fonds consists of correspondence received by Montague in his capacity as editor plus a few carbons of his replies. Correspondents include Peadar O'Donnell, Liam Miller, Thomas Kinsella, and some of the other contributing writers: Aidan Higgins, Pearce Hutchinson, Val Iremonger, John Jordan, James Liddy, John McGahern, Brian Moore, Richard Murphy, James Plunkett, Richard Weber, Leslie Daiken, and Thomas McIntyre. There are also some miscellaneous letters and items; including letters from Samuel Beckett and Robin Skelton. Included with the correspondence are a few holograph notes, cuttings, manuscripts, pamphlets, and emphemera relating to The Dolmen Miscellany.

The fonds consists of contact sheets of 19 rolls of film taken during Brown's trip to China, including views of palaces, Buddhist temples, mountains in northern China, the Great Wall of China, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Canton. Each has an accompanying page, identifying the photographs, copied from Brown's field notes, copies of the original 35 mm negatives (reverse view), and a photocopy of a map of China with Brown's route traced in red. Also included are six photographs, made from the negatives, for an article in "The Ring Research Bulletin", and given to SC by UVic Public Relations in 1993.
