Anthony Scott fonds
Fonds · 1942-2013

The fonds consists of correspondence, publication manuscripts and offprints, lecture, course notes and research files. The records offer extensive evidence of Scott's activities of teaching, research, publications and involvement with various government economic commissions. Also included are photographs (most of which are included in two scrapbooks), and a CD containing digital versions of much of Scott's written work since 1980.

Series contains records created or received during Trotter’s volunteer work for the Quesnel Peace Action Group, Quesnel Environmental Society, Quesnel Social Justice Coalition, B.C. Network Against Two-Tier Healthcare, Quesnel Affordable Housing Action Committee, and Quesnel Climate Action Group.

Records include meeting minutes, meeting agendas, handwritten meeting notes, internal correspondence, lobbying correspondence, photocopied journal articles, literature reviews, handwritten research notes, informational booklets, pamphlets, posters, flyers, event planning notes, petitions, surveys, newsletters, membership contact lists, an alternative federal budget, a climate change toolkit, and housing development proposals. Most files also contain newspaper clippings related to each organization’s actions and achievements, or related to information about each specific cause, collected for research purposes.

Three photographs depicting a Peace March in Quesnel are located in file 2022.35/5/1/2d. Two additional photographs depicting the Quesnel community garden and a large bike rack are located in file 2022.35/5/6/1a.

Collection consists of video history interviews with park pioneers, as well as some events, created by EKOS Communications in partnership with the Elders Council for Parks of British Columbia commemorate the 100th anniversary of BC Parks in 2011.

The Elders Council is an independent society, whose members are retired parks system employees and conservation advocates who have dedicated a significant portion of their lives to parks and protected areas in BC. These interviews served as source material for the documentary BC Parks: Celebrating 100 Years of Recreation and Protection.

EKOS Communications first launched in 2005 as ekostv.com with the goal of creating Canada's first independent new media channel. ekostv was re-envisioned in 2007 as EKOS Communications, Inc. which providing environmental education and communication services. Clients included Parks Canada, BC Parks, Natural Resources Canada, Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, Metro Vancouver, and Union of BC Municipalities. EKOS Communications’ services included project management, video production, audio production, web design and development, community animation, group process and facilitation, research and writing, communications strategy, communications consultation, environmental education, curriculum design, development and evaluation.

In December 2010, EKOS Communications Inc. dissolved and was re-formed as EKOS Communications under the sole proprietorship of creator, president and executive producer Rick Searle. As of April 2011, other chief officers of EKOS Communications included Creative Director/Writer Starr Munro, Editor/Shooter Richard Fulop, and Webmaster Prarie Blake. EKOS Communications’ stated mission is “to assist with the rapid advancement of ecological literacy and sustainability through environmental education and communication;” “Combining video, audio, animation, and print with new media innovations, EKOS Communications connects people more deeply with each other to work together for the betterment of the planet.”

Standard questions were used in most of the interviews and included dates of employment/association with BC Parks, parks worked in, greatest challenges, accomplishments and regrets, lessons learned, hopes for provincial park system today and mentors.

The fonds consists of minutes of meetings, society newsletters, restoration proposals and reports, funding sources and incoming and out-going correspondence. The records reflect the activities of the Haig-Brown Kingfisher Creek Society over a period of twenty-one years (1980-2001) with a specific focus on the restoration of the Kingfisher Creek, a tributary of the Campbell River. Restoration activities featured in these records are centered around the restoration and rehabilitation of the two main branches of the creek, the adjoining wetland (the Pease Swamp), and the diversion of the creek so that it enters the Campbell River through the property of Roderick Haig-Brown.

The fonds consists of records made and received by the Institute of Fisheries Analysis in the course of administering its day-to-day operations. Activities and topics documented include the establishment, organization, and operation of the Institute (including its physical space); budget and funding; projects, programs, and agreements; IFA publications and publicity; and student, staff, and IFA member relations. Records in the fonds include correspondence, minutes, contracts, internal directories, reports, discussion papers, subject files (relating to fisheries research), press clippings, and IFA brochures.

Note that the records of the Institute of Fisheries Analysis contain university records from the Centre for Canadian Studies and the Department of Economics and Commerce. This anomaly likely occurred because of Parzival Copes’s involvement as director and instructor within each of these bodies. The records he used would have been maintained together in whichever office he occupied. Also includes materials about the resettlement project that B.C. Hydro carried out during the Columbia River Project.
