Alert Bay Library and Museum photograph collection

The collection consists of photographs of Alert Bay and area depicting persons, families, churches, schools, hospital, businesses, organizations, industry, social events, activities of the Columbia Coast Mission, native Indians, and general scenes of the area. The collection incorporates the photographs of the Pioneer Journal (1939-1941, 1951-1964), a newspaper published in Alert Bay.

Thomas and Mildred Laurie collection

The collection includes material relating to Alert Bay that was created or collected by Thomas and Mildred Laurie, as well as photographs and textual records created or received by James Barclay Williams, who bequeathed the records to Mildred Laurie. The collection includes a photo album, photographs, postcards, correspondence, newspaper clippings, pamphlets, and a calendar. Photographs document Alert Bay and the surrounding area, including the B.C. Packers store, Christ Church, the native cemetery, St. Michael’s Residential School and Preventorium, Canada Packers, Hardy Bay, totem poles, a long house, and the Nimpkish Hotel. Photographs also document local events, including potlatches, weddings, an outdoor salmon barbeque, BC centenary celebrations in 1958, native ceremonies, and a visit by the Governor General.

Francis Richard C. Brown family collection

The collection consists of photographs that were collected by Francis and Lily Brown when they lived in Prince Rupert from 1911 to 1917. Some of the photographs are originals, some are postcards and others are copies of the originals still held by the family. The photographs include scenes such as Crippen Cove, the arrival of the Duke of Connaught on the Princess Alice in September 1912, blasting of areas for expanding the city, 3rd Avenue in 1911 and the arrival of the first train from Winnipeg in 1914.

Prince Rupert Empire collection

The collection consists of 9 photographs and copies of photographs showing scenes of Prince Rupert and area, groups of townspeople, a stone totem pole at Metlakatla, and a man poling a dug-out canoe probably on the Skeena River. It includes two newspaper clippings, one from the BC Saturday Sunset dated September 14, 1912 and another from The Globe dated Saturday March 23, 1907. The bound volumes of the Prince Rupert Empire newspaper were transferred to Special Collections. See accompanying note.

Bowen Island Historians photograph collection

The collection consists of photographs and postcards of a wide range of people, buildings, locales, and events associated with Bowen Island. These include a large number of images of: the Bowen Island Inn resort complex and ships operated by the Terminal Steam Navigation Company and later, the Union Steamship Company; churches; ferry launches operated by the Sannie Transportation Company; members of many island families; beach activities; school activities; sports; picnics; tent camping; logging; ferries; and, local areas such as Snug Cove, Deep Bay, Miller's Landing, Cowan's Point, Tunstall Bay and Hood Point.

Milton Parent oral history collection

The collection consists of 76 reel tapes and 56 cassette tapes of interviews with 233 pioneers of the Arrow Lakes area and 5 volumes of transcripts. An inventory of the oral history project includes the name and occupation of the interviewee, the date of the interview, and the area discussed. The interviews were conducted by Milton Parent over a period of 25 years.

Margaret Blain collection

Collection consists of records and photographs from activities of Tiny Tots and recreation classes taught by Margaret Blain at the Civic Centre on Second Avenue. Includes notes, the Civic Centre's Bylaws revised 6 Aug 1946, correspondence, a Pro-Rec Centres bulletin, membership cards, Civic Centre Program Bulletins, program lists, a Civic Centre leaders' handbook, book of enrollment, and attendance for programs. Photographs include the civic centre building, gymnastics, tiny tots, and staff including Don Forward, Neil Ross, Bob Moore, and Jack McIntosh. Other photographs depict Norman Baker and Emile Blain, Margaret's husband, and Emile and another employee inside Blain Brothers Grocers at 837 2nd Ave. West. Ephemera consists of a Prince Rupert General Hospital feeding schedule for Barbara Blain, a Reid's Holiday Tog. Ltd. for Miss M. Slin, a Pro-Rec winter schedule from 1946-1947, and a birth form from the Prince Rupert General Hospital, dated June 21, 1950.

Blain, Margaret

Morishita family collection

The collection consists of six series of papers, photographs and artefacts amassed by the Morishita family. The first series consists of papers and artefacts belonging to the patriarch of the family, Teiji Morishita. The second series consists of papers and artefacts belonging to Teiji's wife, Sawa Morishita. The third series consists of papers and artefacts amassed while the Morishitas (with the Ebisuzakis) ran the Ebisuzaki Shoten (store) at 337 Powell Street in Vancouver, BC. The fourth series consists of family photographs and artefacts belonging to the Morishita family. The fifth series consists of papers and artefacts belonging to the Morishita children. And the sixth series consists of papers and artefacts belonging to the Ebisuzaki family.

May Day collection

The collection consists of material relating to May Day celebrations which was a key community event in West Vancouver from 1931 to 1971. The celebrations included installation of a May Day Queen, parades and other ceremonies. After 1971, the celebration was renamed Community Day, and the collection also includes records pertaining to this event.The material includes photographs, registers, scrapbooks, speeches, organizing committee records, and correspondence.

Holly Elementary School collection

The collection consists of 39 copy negatives with 93 matching slides of Delta pioneers, schools and historical locations in Delta, and five cassette tapes of interviews with Delta pioneers conducted by grade five students of Holly Elementary School in Delta. The collection is the result of a centennial year project called "Those Were the Days" carried out by the students under the direction of their teacher Mr. G. Johnson. Photographs include copies of historical images as well as contemporary portraits and scenes. A project list of the images is available. People interviewed for the project were: Murray Davie, Tony and May Lagemaat, Jean Atkinson, Bertha Reynolds, John and Warrena Nottingham, Edith Bell, Mrs. Ellis Telfer, Mrs. Albert Weaver, Ed Vidulich and Dominic Bussanich.

Agassiz Harrison Historical Society photograph collection

The collection consists of photographs of the Agassiz-Harrison area depicting individuals, families, businesses, industry (particularly farming and logging), events (including the 1948 Fraser River Flood), community associations, schools, and general scenes.

Boundary Museum photograph collection

The collection consists of photographs of Grand Forks and the Boundary region (including the communities of Columbia, Phoenix, Greenwood, Midway, Rock Creek, and Christina Lake) depicting individuals, families and community groups; community events; schools and class photographs; general scenes; and, economic activity (including railway activity, ranching, mining and smelting (Granby Smelter), and milling. The collection includes photographs created by the Grand Forks Gazette newspaper.
