David Henley collection

The collection consists of the journal of the Victoria Fire Department, 1872-1875, and correspondence and invitations of Captain J.C. Ross while on a world trip, 1903-1904.

Collection consists of one file containing a bound volume of the proceedings at the Court of Appeal between the plaintiff, David Hobson, and the defendant being the Corporation of the Township of Richmond. The Appeal Book contains the documentation gathered to support the plaintiff's claim against the defendant for damages through the flooding and overflow of water onto his property, official court documents and transcripts, as well as five photographs that illustrate the damage to the plaintiff's lands on Lulu Island.

The collection documents community events and the lives of people in Delta.

The collection consists of 22 photographs that show in a variety of detail the operation and structures of a shingle mill and logging railroad in North Delta in the early part of the 1900's. The collection includes photographs of the owner, Wesley Thompson, his family, and mill workers. The donor also provided photocopies of clippings and genealogical information about the Thompson family, which are located in the Archives Reference files under Wesley Thompson.

Volume 1 includes an introduction, acknowledgements and writings from Beach Grove, Chalmers, Devon Gardens, and English Bluff; volume 2 includes writings from Annieville, Cougar Canyon, Gray, and Jarvis; volume 3 is from Brooke, Gibson, and Pinewood; volume 4 is from Hawthorne, Heath, and Hellings; volume 5 is from Delta Manor, Ladner, and Richardson; volume 7 is from Cliff Drive, McCloskey, and Pebble Hill.

Denis Johnston collection

The collection consists of Johnston's second typescript draft (as finally rejected) of "Shadowdance", later called "The Old Lady Says No!", with holograph corrections by W.B. Yeats and others. Also included are photocopies of several early drafts of this play, including the aforementioned. In addition, there is the author's proof copy, with corrections, of "The Brazen Horn, Lenaea 5" (1968) [probably for 2nd ed. 1969, amended to Lenaea 6]. The fonds also consists of correspondence from Denis and Betty Johnston to Bill and Mary Harbold from 1973-1982; a signed photograph of Johnston; photocopies of book reviews and book chapters re Johnston; a copy of Nine Rivers from Jordan with final corrections; and a copy of the libretto of Nine Rivers from Jordan.

Denise Levertov collection

The collection consists of letters and postcards (1940-1951) written by Levertov to Charles Wrey Gardiner (editor of Poetry Quarterly); letters, drafts of poems and a postcard (1946-1947) to John Hayward; and drawings not used for "A Tree Telling of Orpheus", 1967. The letters also mention Dannie Abse, Herbert Read and Kenneth Rexroth.

The collection consists of notes, clippings, and correspondence relating to Nelson's research into the Oblate Missionaries of Mary Immaculate and Father Charles Pandosy. There are also clippings, notes, typescripts and photographs on British Columbia's early history and place names.

Norman Swartz joined the Department of Philosophy at SFU in 1967 and retired as Professor Emeritus in 1998.

During Swartz's early years at SFU, the Political Science, Sociology and Anthropology Department was in academic and administrative turmoil, which culminated in the Department being placed under trusteeship by the University administration and eight faculty members going on strike.

Various faculty members, administrators and students produced documents to support their points of view during the PSA crisis. As he explained in his autobiographical notes, Swartz collected all of the PSA material that circulated around the University and that reached his desk from 1969 to 1970. Collection includes correspondence, memoranda, newspaper clippings and other documents related to the ongoing events in the PSA Department at this time.

The Political Science, Sociology and Anthropology (PSA) Department was established in 1965 as one of the original departments at SFU. It marked a significant academic innovation in that it united three separate disciplines under one head—the distinguished Marxist scholar Tom Bottomore. By the late 1960s, Bottomore had returned to England, and the department entered a period of scholarly and administrative turmoil. The crisis culminated in the Department being placed under trusteeship by the University administration and eight faculty members going on strike.

The collection consists of various files collected over the years by the staff of the University Archives to assist history students and other researchers. Includes press releases, reports, publications and other documents.

The collection also includes a proposal for a minor in Women's Studies and a correspondence file that contains letters exchanged between Lolita Wilson, Assistant to the Vice-President, Academic and the Committee on the Status of Women of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC). The latter file also contains a copy of Wilson's 1972 report, "Women at Simon Fraser University."
