The collection consists of documents and photographs intentionally assembled collection of discrete items documenting the following areas: the occupational pursuits of B.C. and Yukon Jewry; the organized religious life of Jews in B.C.; leisure activities; and the membership and good works of organizations formed to aid and represent the Jewish community, such as the National Council of Jewish Women. There is also a wide range of individual and family portraits, and photographs of headstones.

Torrens, Clerk of the Legislative Assembly. Passed the Legislative Council 16th June, 1864, E. J. Nesbitt, Clerk of the Legislative Council. Received my Assent this 7th day of July, 1864, A. E. Kennedy, Governor. Victoria, Vancouver Island: printed by authority of the government by Harries and Company, 1864.

Folio, 29.3 cm, pp. [3] on single folded sheet of cream paper. Near fine. Original folio printings, never bound, of the draft and final act legally establishing the first Jewish Congregation in western Canada, the oldest surviving synagogue in Canada, housed in what is now the oldest surviving synagogue building on the West Coast of North America. The synagogue was founded in 1859 and the present synagogue building was built in 1863. Unrecorded original printed acts, the Harries imprint very rare indeed.

The series also includes letters to and from William Seidelman, Sr. from the 1889 and 1890s; some of the letters come from Seattle. The CD-R contains family records digitized by the family ca. 2007. Some of the originals of the digitized records on CD-R are part of the fonds.

The fonds contains records from various Seidelman family members, including Private Edward Joseph Seidelman, Harry Seidelman, and William Seidelman Sr. The records reflect the family’s daily life. The fonds includes photographs of the Seidelman family members and friends. The textual material includes letters written by Private Edward Joseph Seidelman while in the Army from 1916 to 1917. Also included are correspondence of Harry Seidelman and records relating to his employment as a sailor and as a partner at United Grain and Milling Co. Ltd. Other records include receipts, financial records, school certificates, newspaper clippings, and records relating to the family’s involvement in the Vancouver Jewish community.
