Public Works Committee records

Series consists of minutes and papers dealing with all issues involving Public Works including construction, maintenance and replacement of streets, lanes, sidewalks, bridges, street lighting, civic floats and wharves, and all matters relating to highway access to the City and the regulation of signs on land and buildings owned by the City.

Series consists of a register of applications to Council for rezoning land. Includes information on the application number, date, street, legal description of property, nature of the rezoning applied for, name of the applicant, and whether or not the application was approved.

Series consists of records pertaining to operation and maintenance of the Johnson Street Bridge. Includes correspondence, maintenance files, and cement test results.

Series consists of a record of railway and navigation traffic using and requiring operation of the Johnson Street Bascule Bridge. Includes daily information on the time the bridge was raised, for what vessel, and whether it was entering or leaving the Upper Harbour. Also includes the time trains passed over the bridge, their name or a description of them, and whether they were entering or leaving the downtown area. In addition, there are notes on bridge maintenance, weather, and various other matters

Recreation and Community Services Committee records

This committee was one of the three standing committees reporting directly to City Council (the others being the Group 'A' and Group 'B' Committees). The committee oversaw the management of the Memorial Arena, Crystal Gardens, McPherson Playhouse, and Royal Athletic Park as well as general recreation planning and program development. Earlier, this committee was known as the Parks, Boulevards and Recreation Facilities Committee

The index consists of yearly volumes that provide references to document numbers, file numbers, and topics. Topical searches will yield document numbers pointing to specific letters or reports.

Series consists of local laws and regulations passed by City Council to control, regulate, and administer affairs within its jurisdiction. The original bylaws are stored in City Hall, but bound duplicates of most of them are located in the Archives. Although some of the originals are missing, many of them can be found among the bound versions. Only those bylaws located in the Archives are included in the file list.
Registered bylaws are those that have been signed and sealed as certified copies of the originals.
