Arctic Explorers collection

The collection consists of two letters from Belcher in 1855 and two from McClintock in 1869. The first Belcher letter is concerned with the Minié rifle, and the second with personal matters. The first McClintock letter is concerned with charts and exploration of the west African coast. He mentions Belcher in this regard. The second letter is about personal matters.

The collection consists of 4 hls. Ker Baillie Hamilton (1856-57) from Antigua to Henry Labouchere, M.P. Secretary of State for the Colonies. Further letters are written by Governor C. J. Bayley pleading the case of Mr. F. Whitley concerning colonial securities for public officers, plus earlier letters from Whitley to Robert Lowe, M.P. and from Adderley and Francis to Whitley.

Stallworthy Family fonds

The fonds reflects the religious work and family history of Rev. George Stallworthy and his descendants. The collection consists of two manuscripts:-- "The Fathers' Indian Mutiny Letters, 1857 - 1859" which consists of Xeroxed, typed transcripts of letters from J. H. Wyatt, writing from India, to his wife, Jane, "Jeanie" in Aberdeen. There are 77 letters plus a note: "Maude's Battery at the Relief of Lucknow 25 Set. 1857. By Lt. Col. M.E.S. Laws. OBE. M.C. R.A. (ret'd.) Taken from the R.A. Journal, July, 1953", 6 pp. The second is "Military Memories: Part I. First World War,1914-19; Part II. Mesopotamia, Egypt, Turkey, 1919-23; Part III. The fonds consists of correspondence regarding World War I, 1915-1919, mostly letters and postcards from Georges Destrube in France, with a few from other family members and friends (some are in French). The subject of the letters is mostly about army life/war and the untimely deaths of Guy and Paul Destrube. Also included are clippings from "The Illustrated London News", from 1857 and 1870.

The collection consists of documents and photographs intentionally assembled collection of discrete items documenting the following areas: the occupational pursuits of B.C. and Yukon Jewry; the organized religious life of Jews in B.C.; leisure activities; and the membership and good works of organizations formed to aid and represent the Jewish community, such as the National Council of Jewish Women. There is also a wide range of individual and family portraits, and photographs of headstones.
