Joan Coldwell fonds

Fonds consists of materials created and collected by Joan Coldwell though both her personal relationship and her business dealings with Jane Rule. It includes incoming personal correspondence from Jane Rule and Helen Sonthoff to Joan Coldwell and Ann Saddlemyer. Also included is a sous-fond, Hedgerow Press – Loving The Difficult, arising from the Press’s publication of Jane Rule’s final book. It consists of correspondence, contracts, obituaries, publication and promotion materials, including photographs of the book launch on Galiano Island, as well as a CD-ROM copy of the work and a bound paper draft.

The collection of video tapes consists of three categories: raw footage of UBC events/activities primarily from the 1990s; footage shot by UBC film students for a documentary on the Fraser Canyon region; and a series of interviews with a veteran of the Spanish Civil War. Most recordings are in Betacam format, the remainder are VHS.

Criminology Programme Collection

The collection consists of materials acquired or collected by Elmer K. Nelson primarily relating to the UBC criminology programme and his work for the B.C. Office of Corrections. It includes biographical information (1954-2007), correspondence (1952-1987), newspaper clippings (1952-1957), and publications (1953-1957). Also included is an audio cassette recording (catalogue # UBC 3415) of an interview with Nelson conducted by the B.C. Corrections Branch History Committee, dated 1978. Additionally, a copy of an article written by Gary Parkinson in 2007, "Recovering the early history of Canadian criminology: Criminology at the University of British Columbia, 1951 to 1959", is included at the request of the collector.

Department of Mechanical Engineering fonds

Fonds consists primarily of photographic material (including: black and white and colour photographs and negatives, and colour slides) as well as, pen and ink sketches and textual material. The textual material which spans intermittently between 1976 and 1994, includes reports, work orders, memoranda, drawings and blueprints. The bulk of this material primarily concerns itself with two areas of Departmental activity: teaching and machining; however, other areas to offer representation include the Engineering Undergraduate Society, the Department's photographic unit and faculty research.

The fonds consists of records documenting the functions, activities, and programmes of the UBC Department of Medicine and its constituent divisions. Also, because of the close working relationship between the Department and the Vancouver Hospital & Health Sciences Centre Department of Medicine -- the two were led by the same department head for much of the 1990s -- some VHHSC records were kept with the UBC files in the department offices; they remained interfiled when the records were transferred to the University Archives. The records include correspondence, reports, minutes, and published materials. It includes transcribed typed copies of the complete works of David Crawford (or Crawfurd) (ca. 1700); a copy of an article written by Macaree about Crawford (1961); and photocopies of early political pamphlets by Daniel Defoe (ca. 1700-1714).
