May Ellingsen fonds

Fonds consists of ten photograph albums compiled and annotated by May Ellingsen. The albums contain both original and reproduced photographs of Cortes Island and nearby islands, including Twin Islands and Hernando Island. They are accompanied by captions and additional textual information such as pre-emption records, reminiscences and newspaper clippings. Most of the photographs date from the early decades of the 20th century, depicting homes and buildings, pioneer families, community activities, schools, wharves, boats, logging and marine activity. The fonds focuses on the business and financial records kept by Pete Casorso. The files represent his business interests whether it is Mountview Sawmills Ltd. Pioneer Ranch, Casorso Brothers Ltd. and the many properties he owned or co-owned, mining interests (especially Lexington Mines Ltd. and Notre Dames Des Mines). Also included are records relating to insurance and legal indentures, personal records such as correspondence. Many of the records are handwritten and offer a glimpse into the life and times of Pete Casorso, Kelowna pioneer, farmer and businessman. on contents. The fonds consists of records made and received by the Institute of Fisheries Analysis in the course of administering its day-to-day operations. Activities and topics documented include the establishment, organization, and operation of the Institute (including its physical space); budget and funding; projects, programs, and agreements; IFA publications and publicity; and student, staff, and IFA member relations. Records in the fonds include correspondence, minutes, contracts, internal directories, reports, discussion papers, subject files (relating to fisheries research), press clippings, and IFA brochures.

Note that the records of the Institute of Fisheries Analysis contain university records from the Centre for Canadian Studies and the Department of Economics and Commerce. This anomaly likely occurred because of Parzival Copes’s involvement as director and instructor within each of these bodies. The records he used would have been maintained together in whichever office he occupied.
