William C. Gibson fonds

The fonds consists of research material on a variety of medical and historical topics as well as research for a number of Gibson’s books and articles including his books about UBCʹs first president Frank F. Wesbrook, Ramon y Cajal, Sherrington, and his books New Endeavour and Old Endeavour. The fonds includes manuscripts of a number of Gibson articles and speeches as well as chapters from some of his books, records from Woodward Health Science centre and documents for the history of the Faculty of medicine, and related to Green College UBC and Oxford. Also included are records from the Agricultural Science Fund Committee (1967‐1974), School of Rehabilitation Medicine (1953‐1961), Master Teaching Awards Committee (1967‐1972), minutes from the Council of the Faculty of Medicine (1950‐1964), materials relating to Vancouver civic politics (1970‐1984), and correspondence with Sir Frederick Dainton (1980‐1983), Cecil Green, and Wilder Penfield among many others.

The fonds consists of scrapbooks constructed by members of the Theta Chapter of the Phrateres, from some of the sub-chapters, and from the UCLA Alpha chapter, to document their activities. Scrapbooks are composed of clippings, pamphlets, photographs, and drawings relating to various charitable and social events sponsored by the organization. The records also include minutes from Theta Chapter and Presidents' and Social Reports. Other materials include membership lists, a guest book for an alumni tea, and handbooks for the UBC Theta Chapter and for the University of Washington chapter.

Fonds contains records pertaining to the separate careers and personal lives of both Verna Huffman Splane and Richard Splane, and their life together as a couple. Work records reflect Richard’s work in Alberta, his time in the RCAF, and his lengthy career in the federal government as well as Verna’s work for WHO, the federal government, and as a faculty member at UBC and the University of Victoria. These records include government reports, meeting minutes and agenda, correspondence, articles, course outlines and notes. Personal records reflect both Richard and Verna’s social lives and interest in social welfare outside of their careers. These records include correspondence, curriculum vitae, photographs (print and digital), notes, articles and publications, meeting minutes and agenda, and certificates.
The records reflecting Richard and Verna’s joint life has been arranged into eight series: Chief Nursing Officers Study, Home and Social Life, Personal Correspondence, University Hill Congregation, Social Welfare Work, Honours and Awards, Photographs, and Audio-visual. The fonds also includes two sous-fonds: the Richard Beverly Splane sous-fonds and the Verna Huffman Splane sous-fonds.

Fonds consists of records documenting the programs and activities of the Radio Society / CiTR (including DISCORDER), including textual records and sound recordings of a variety of programs, radio plays, campus events, public service announcements, photographs of the radio studio and from different events, and advertisements produced by the Radio Society for broadcast on its station (CYVR/CiTR) or affiliated radio stations. In addition, the fonds includes recordings of interviews conducted on behalf of the Alma Mater society relating to its art collection. Fonds also consists of materials related to the administration of the radio station including information about licensing, executive meetings, policies, job descriptions, and staff training.

Anthony Scott fonds

The fonds consists of correspondence, publication manuscripts and offprints, lecture, course notes and research files. The records offer extensive evidence of Scott's activities of teaching, research, publications and involvement with various government economic commissions. Also included are photographs (most of which are included in two scrapbooks), and a CD containing digital versions of much of Scott's written work since 1980.

Fonds consists of laboratory manuals published by the UBC Department of Physics between 1949 and 1966 (most dated 1957-1962); mimeographed hand-outs for experiments and other assignments; hand-written lecture notes; and a 1944 Canadian Army physics laboratory manual. Many of the manuals are annotated. The manuals are bound, but the notes and hand-outs are loose; all have been placed in acid-free folders. They are arranged by course number, and then chronologically; unnumbered materials, and folders containing unsorted material from various courses, were placed at the end.
Fonds also includes promotional materials, many of which relate specifically to the Department of Physics at university-wide Open Houses, annual reports from the Department of Physics, notes made by Professor John Warren regarding x-rays and particle physics, as well as photographs taken of individuals, groups, and events related to the Department of Physics.

Laurence Ricou fonds

The fonds consists of one album of photographs taken by Sage between September 1945 and August 1946 at a relocation camp near Tashme, B.C. where she was a social worker. The photographs include general views of the scenery, individuals and groups and some smaller buildings. In addition to the camp shots, there are also pictures of Japanese Canadians preparing for relocation. The album also includes a newspaper clipping, post card and a typescript article about the Tashme Camp. The fonds also includes a small body of correspondence written by Margaret Sage to her parents Walter and Nelda Sage and to her brother Donald (1945/46).

It also contains manuscripts by students, materials related to musician and composer Michael Zilber, Department of Creative Writing administrative records as well as various UBC committee records.

The collection consists of materials gathered by Karl Ruppenthal as course aids for subjects taught mainly at Stanford University as part of the Transportation Management Program. The bulk of the collection consists of copies of transportation industry publications, published regulatory decisions and reports and related documents, and transcripts of addresses and speeches by other individuals, along with related correspondence and newspaper and magazine clippings. There are no papers in the collection generated by Ruppenthal himself, apart from copies of letters requesting materials from corporations and regulatory bodies, and some written notes.
