The New Westminster Horticultural Society fonds contains minute books, financial records, the constitution, membership newsletters and lists, general correspondence, and pamphlets on garden shows held by the society and other horticultural societies. The bulk of the material was created by the executive members of the society in conjunction with their duties, and a smaller amount of material was created by various horticultural societies in BC.

All material has been arranged chronologically to reflect the natural record accumulation over time and to facilitate easy access.

Several hotel operation guides, ephemera and oversized miscellanea are also a part of the fonds. The bulk of the material was created from the day-to-day operation of the hotel.

The fonds consists of textual and photographic records documenting the activities of the Hansen family and their homestead at Port Neville, B.C. Records include family correspondence (in-coming and out-going), marriage , birth and death certificates, diaries, journals and material relating to the family operated post office and store at Port Neville. Textual records also include ephemera including cards, receipts etc.

The photographic material include images of the Hansen family and their home in New Westminster and homestead at Port Neville, including views of the family operated Post Office and Store. Also included are images of the region surrounding Port Neville including Alert Bay and Hardwicke Island as well as events such as weddings, May Day celebrations and parades.

The fonds consists of a collection of reference files created by Columbian staff members over a number of years. The files were accessed by staff members to provide information about a given person or subject. The content of these files is predominately black and white photographic prints and associated newspaper clippings. There are also other types of documents in the files such as pamphlets, circulars, assignment sheets, and memos. The fonds contains five series: People Files, Subject Files, and Sports Files, Sports Mug Shots, and New Westminster Today Photos. These records are sorted alphabetically except for the New Westminster Today photos which are filed chronologically.

The fonds consists of the photographs Frank Goodship took during his employment at the British Columbian newspaper. Many of these photographs were published in the newspaper. A search of the newspaper has provided additional information about these photos. In these cases, the date of the paper and the page number on which it appeared has been noted in the scope and content. The exact captions have usually not been added but all names of individuals given by the paper have been included. Please not that not all photographs are available online. In many cases, a number of simliar shots were taken for the same shoot. In these cases, the archives has chosen what it thinks the best and most representative shots. The other photos may be viewed at the archives. The fonds has been divided into five series.

The Irving family collection is one of the oldest manuscript collections in the city archives collection as it was initiated upon the acquisition and opening of Irving House Historic Centre in 1950 by the City of New Westminster and the Native Sons and Daughters of B.C. Post #4. The Irving Family Collection is unique among the Manuscript Collections of the N.W. Museum and Archives because it was collected with the intention of forming the primary documentation source to interpret the history of Irving House and the Irving family. The collection that has been assembled is large and diverse as it is an artificial amalgamation of several disparate private record groups accessioned over many years. This collection of record groups is integral to the operation of the museum's interpretive and research programs for Irving House and remains an open collection in order to integrate future additions.

In 1989 museum staff organized the various donations of archival material related to the Irving Family into one physical location within the Museum building for the purpose of maintaining one collection. All photographs were numbered and indexed as one collection with the prefix IFP [Irving Family Photograph]. The Irving family collection was arranged and described in 2006 into five family groups representing the different branches of the Irving Family created by the children of Capt. William and Elizabeth Irving: John Irving family, Mary Irving Briggs family, Susan Irving Cox family, Elizabeth Irving Spencer family, and the Nellie Irving Chandler family. There are also two other records groups: Other Sources and Photographs. Each item or file represents separate donations from various descendants and others to the archives. Provenance of this collection's items with known accession numbers has been noted where documented.

This latter group of records was most likely acquired by the McLeod Company in the exercise of its corporate management role. Thus in this collection there are records created by the Westminster Trust Co., Westminster Apartments Ltd., the Dominion Trust Co, and F.J. Hart & Co. The records include books of minutes, a stock register and stock transfer books, stock certificates, debentures, wills, estate files, insurance records, newspaper clippings, architectural drawings, and photographs.
