Library fonds

The fonds consists of records generated by the UBC Library and its branches and divisions, and includes correspondence (both internal and external), reports, minutes, budgets and other financial records, architectural plans and drawings, published materials, scrapbooks, and photographs. The records are arranged in sous-fonds based on branches and divisions represented by the records. They are the Librarian's Office, Acquisition Division, Data Library, Extension Library, Gifts and Exchanges Division, Reference Division, Sedgewick Library, Special Collections Division, Woodward Library, PATSCAN, Fine Arts Division, Information Services, and Technical Services. Also included are some records from the library of McGill University College of B.C., pre-dating the establishment of UBC and its Library.

This collection, assembled by William Tetlow of the UBC Office of Institutional Analysis and Planning, consists of President Macdonalds initial proposal to the Board of Governors and Senate as well as minutes and reports arising from the work of the Committee on Higher Education (1962/63). In addition, there are also copies of numerous briefs presented by community groups from throughout the province.

Malcolm Knapp fonds

The fonds consists of correspondence, addresses, reports, printed materials, field notes and clippings relating to Knapp's professional interests and activities. In addition, the fonds contains course materials, minutes of meetings, and administrative records relating to the UBC Faculty of Forestry. The fonds also contains photographs and slides documenting the Faculty of Forestry and its students as well as the University Research Forest.

Margaret A. Ormsby Oral History Project fonds

The fonds consists of forty-one interviews with thirty eight colleagues, family, students and friends of Margaret Ormsby. In addition to the 50 cassette tapes there is also general information about the project as well as textual material for each interview consisting of a tape release form signed by the interviewee, a biographical information sheet and a detailed "timed tape guide".

Michael Ames fonds

Fonds consists of departmental records from Anthropology and Sociology (1964-2000); Canadian Sociology and Anthropology Association records (1970-1979); and, material relating to the Simon Fraser University dispute concerning the Department of Political Science, Sociology and Anthropology (1969-1971). This group of records was assembled by Ames through his participation on the C.S.A.A. team which studied the situation. The papers also include Ames' records of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Museums Association (1980-1983) and the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (1967-1995). The material relating to the Shastri Institute includes records generated or collected by Ames and other members of the Institute at UBC. The names of other members are indicated in the file title. In addition, the fonds contains manuscripts and drafts, records pertaining to Ames research, courses taught by Ames, a variety of conferences and seminars, and records pertaining to Ames participation in several museum studies program reviews. The fonds also contains records relating to Ames' involvement with the MOA, although the majority of the records pertaining to his position as Director and Acting Director of the MOA are held at the MOA Archives. In total, there are 16 series: UBC Department of Anthropology and Sociology series, Canadian Sociology and Anthropology Association series, Department of Political Science, Sociology, and Anthropology (Simon Fraser University) Dispute series, Canadian Museums Association series, Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute series, Assorted Associations and Conferences series, Manuscripts, Drafts, and Papers series, General Correspondence series and a Biographical series, Course Materials series, Program Review series, Research series, Museum of Anthropology (MOA) series, Photographic series, Audio Cassette series and Computer Tape series (last 3 series were added with an accrual in 2007).

Some series are further divided into sub-series. Within each series and sub-series, the records have mostly been retained in their original order.
