Roger Senhouse fonds

The fonds consist of two typed letters from Bosanquet to Roger Senhouse plus a carbon typed letter to Bosanquet from Senhouse. Senhouse annotated Special Collections' copy of "Henry James at Work". Also included are a carbon typescript transcription of Henry James' dictation, a clipping of Bosanquet's article "The Country of Henry James" from Time and Tide, and photocopied clippings from TLS re: James and Bosanquet.

E. M. Forster collection

The collection consists of letters written by Forster to Randall. They concern, firstly, his trip to Rumania, where he stayed with the Randalls; a tour in France in 1928; and his journey home. Later letters include references to such literary people as Herbert Read, Harold Monro and T.S. Eliot, plus a mention of reading James Joyce's "Ulysses". He also refers to his visit to Africa and his sentiments about the Spanish Civil War and W.W.II. Most of the later letters are signed "Morgan".

The collection consists of a black portfolio containing seven cardboard sheets with holograph poems, all signed and numbered [#3 of 10 copies]. Included are: "fragment of Passages (33)" by Robert Duncan; "Dreams" by Jim Harrison; "Swan That Sings And" by Denise Levertov ; "The Connoisseur of Jews" by Jerome Rothenberg; "Poem" by Charles Simic; "Yen Yu" by Louis Simpson; and "To Do" by John Wieners. Also included is a typed letter on poetry (Jan. 1961) by Denise Levertov and a printed prospectus (Oyez) for "The Years As Catches" by Robert Duncan, which contains contributions from Denise Levertov "On Reading the Early Poems of Robert Duncan" and Charles Olson (untitled). Signed holographs issued by the Stony Brook Poetics Foundation in support of its publication program, probably during the Stony Brook Poetry Conference, at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, 1968.

Arthur Russell fonds

The fonds consists primarily of typescripts, together with a proof copy and dust jacket of "Ruth Pitter: Homage to a Poet"[1969]. The fonds consists of records documenting activities of Robert Mayhew and family, including subject files relating to Mayhew's career as Canadian Ambassador to Japan and as Minister of Fisheries, records of Grace Logan Mayhew, including diaries and notebooks on Japanese arts and crafts kept by Mrs. Mayhew on sojourns in Rome and Japan and material relating to her funeral in 1967; photographs of visits of Japanese dignitaries and the British royal family, as well as portraits of Canadian prime ministers; certificates of Mayhew's honorary Doctor of Laws degree, Freeman of Oak Bay and Victoria, and appointment of Mayhew as Minister of Fisheries and as Ambassador to Japan.

The fonds consists of a handwritten bio of Gooch, plus a typed transcription and carbon (possibly by Daphne Fiske). Also included are photocopies of Gooch's handwritten journal comprised of "A 'free run' in the balloon 'Vivid'" [October 18th 1909, 31 l.]. This account was published in The Malahat Review No. 11, 1969; and "Protagonists", his account of moving the artillery battery, of which he was the commanding officer, from England to Salonica and through the campaign there until his discharge [Oct 1915- Dec 1918, 131 l.]

Also included in the collection are enclosures from "Ten Contemporaries" [1932 & 1933]. These enclosures consist of research material and correspondence: re the publication of the two volumes, and the writers included in them.

Also included are a handwritten letter to Tom Clark re "Cloth" and mentioning Ted Berrigan, Paul Carroll, Steve Katz, and Philip Whalen; a corrected typescript signed by Tom Clark which seems to be intended as a preface to "Cloth"; clippings from "Poetry (Chicago)" of Aram Saroyan selection of material from Louis Zukovsky; and a clipping from Rolling Stone? of a picture of Randy Newman.

The collection consists of Graves' autograph diary (1935-1939), with enclosures including letters from his children, photographs, clippings, and transcripts of poems, articles and letters; correspondence written by Graves to various people, including Isla Cameron, Selwyn Jepson, Aemilia Laracuen, Andrew Mylett, and Raphael Patai; poetry worksheets (1965-1970) and prose and poetry worksheets (1970); manuscripts including essays, reviews, forewords, prefaces, articles, lectures, and for the works "King Jesus", "The Anger of Achilles", "Hebrew Myths: The Book of Genesis", "Greek Gods and Heroes", "An Ancient Castle", "La Luna de los Perros", and "Juvenalia and Other Poems"; photographs; and drawings of Majorca by Paul Hogarth. The collection is arranged in lots as its various parts were acquired not as a single purchase but from different book dealers at different times. The collection also consists of a copy of a letter from Robert Graves to UBC chemist Lionel Harrison with sample pages from the poetry book it refers to. The collection also consists of a portrait of RG by John Ulbricht done in 1968.
