The collection consists of correspondence from T. S. Eliot, photographs, a Lecture typescript with corrections, and an annotated book. The correspondence from Eliot is to: Mme. D. Bussy (including 1 unfinished reply and 2 from TSE's secretary) [1934-56]; Miss J.S. Bussy (daughter of above) [1939-56]; T. Tambimuttu [1959]; R. Thoma [1932]; M. Wykes-Joyce re Ezra Pound [1952] ; H.M. Belgion [1940-63]; Mrs. Harold Monro (Alida) [1934-60] including 2 photos; John Lehmann [1936-52]; Anthony Cronin [1958]; Francis Berry [1953] re Herbert Read. The typscript with corrections is TSE's lecture "From Poe to Valery". Also included is Herbert Read's The Education of Free Men (Freedom Press, 1944) with approx. 200 words of Eliot's holograph annotations throughout the text.

The collection consists of photographic glass-plate transparencies depicting life in Japan, including scenery, street scenes, workers, farming, fishing, silk production, stone carvers, wood carvers, metal workers, potters, and artists. These "Yokohama photographs" were sold to foreign tourists between about 1868 and 1912, before cameras and postcards were generally available. They have been described in: Meiji no Nihon: Yokomana shashin no sekai: Saishoku arubamu. Yokohama-shi Yurindo, 1990. (Meiji Japan in tinted album: the world of Yokohama photographs -- includes bibliographical references).

The others include 2 hls to W.R.. Fearon (1937), 3 pp re evidence given by Fearon in Henry Morris Sinclair's libel suit against Gogarty; 1 hls, 1 p to the President of the Irish Free State (11.09.38); 1 tls with h. additions, 3 pp to J.M.N. Jeffries (16.05.1933); 1 p h. with an 8 line comic verse about Hitler signed and dated 13.01.44; 1 tls., 1 p to "Seamus" (13.09.49); 1 tls. 2 pp to Mr. Smart (21.04.52). The collection consists of Graves' autograph diary (1935-1939), with enclosures including letters from his children, photographs, clippings, and transcripts of poems, articles and letters; correspondence written by Graves to various people, including Isla Cameron, Selwyn Jepson, Aemilia Laracuen, Andrew Mylett, and Raphael Patai; poetry worksheets (1965-1970) and prose and poetry worksheets (1970); manuscripts including essays, reviews, forewords, prefaces, articles, lectures, and for the works "King Jesus", "The Anger of Achilles", "Hebrew Myths: The Book of Genesis", "Greek Gods and Heroes", "An Ancient Castle", "La Luna de los Perros", and "Juvenalia and Other Poems"; photographs; and drawings of Majorca by Paul Hogarth. The collection is arranged in lots as its various parts were acquired not as a single purchase but from different book dealers at different times. The collection also consists of a copy of a letter from Robert Graves to UBC chemist Lionel Harrison with sample pages from the poetry book it refers to. The collection also consists of a portrait of RG by John Ulbricht done in 1968.

The collection consists of notebooks containing general orders for Swinley Camp (1800) and orders for Horsham Barracks (1807) of the British Army. Also included is a collection of photographs of British prisoners of war at Stalag VIIIB, Lamsdorf, Germany. Some were used as postcards and were sent through the Prisoners of War Post (Kriegsgefangenenpost) to their destinations in England.

The collection consists of manuscripts and typescripts of The Group; manuscripts of poems; a manuscript of Hobsbaum's doctoral dissertation "A Theory of Communication", with holograph corrections by William Empson, Professor of English at Sheffield University; and letters to Hobsbaum from Empson relating to the supervision of Hobsbaum's doctoral thesis. The collection consists of letters (1960-1961) written by Hughes to Graham T. Ackroyd. There are also groupings of drafts of Hughes's "Dully Gumption's Addendum", "Fishing at Dawn", "New Moon" and "Out III: Remembrance Day". Additionally, there are drafts and fragments of other works (often on the versos of the previous drafts); several are by Sylvia Plath.

Denis Johnston collection

The collection consists of Johnston's second typescript draft (as finally rejected) of "Shadowdance", later called "The Old Lady Says No!", with holograph corrections by W.B. Yeats and others. Also included are photocopies of several early drafts of this play, including the aforementioned. In addition, there is the author's proof copy, with corrections, of "The Brazen Horn, Lenaea 5" (1968) [probably for 2nd ed. 1969, amended to Lenaea 6]. The fonds also consists of correspondence from Denis and Betty Johnston to Bill and Mary Harbold from 1973-1982; a signed photograph of Johnston; photocopies of book reviews and book chapters re Johnston; a copy of Nine Rivers from Jordan with final corrections; and a copy of the libretto of Nine Rivers from Jordan.

The collection consists of audio tapes of 120 interviews that Lawrence conducted between 1980 and 1990 with naval personnel, several female officers and ratings. Fonds includes several interview transcripts, correspondence relating to one interview, a captain's night order book (HMCS Portage), and the text of an address. The additional fonds consist of manuscripts for books and articles written by Hal Lawrence, correspondence, clippings and photographs related to his navel career. The fonds also include personal and professional documents and correspondence, navel oral history material, several navel maps and transparencies, miscellaneous publications and ephemera. The letters also mention Dannie Abse, Herbert Read and Kenneth Rexroth.

The collection consists of: 1) Four vellum leaves by various calligraphers taken from a Flemish Psalter, two French Book of Hours, and a French Bible. 2) Ten manuscript leaves by various calligraphers in France, England, Italy, and Spain, including leaves from a Bible, a calendar, Missals, a Book of Hours, a charter, a litany from a Book of Hours, a Psalter, and a Breviary. 3) MS of John Lydgate's "Fall of Princes" (ca. 1431-1438). 247 slides were made for a digitizing project, from which 10 CDs have been produced plus a backup set. There is also a CD for the index to the web site. 4) MS of "Bartholomaeus Anglicus" (ca, 1240-1250), consisting of extracts from his encyclopaedia "De Proprietatibus Rerum (On the Properties of Things). 5) Medieval Fragments: 13th Century Collection (ca. 1200-1300), consists of 7 folia fragments from 5 sources most were recovered pastedowns from later books. 6) Manuscrit religeuse. 7) Court record from the beginning of the reign of James I. It passed through private hands. The document is in Latin court hand and notes the transfer of land from Thomas and Robert Whitney to a knight. 8) Handwritten letter to William Paston from Thomas Jermy dated 31 January 1565. The letter has been repaired, with a slight loss of text. Also included are a photocopy of the letter; a typed transcription of the letter, made in 1974 by H.L. Douch (Curator of the Royal Cornwall Institution) and amended at the suggestion of Jean M. Kennedy (City and County Archivist, Norwich), together with comments by Kennedy and Dorothy Sweet; a handwritten transcription of the original, by Douch; handwritten notes and background material by Sweet; two typed, signed letters to Sweet from Kennedy.

(ret'd.) Taken from the R.A. Journal, July, 1953", 6 pp. The second is "Military Memories: Part I. First World War,1914-19; Part II. Mesopotamia, Egypt, Turkey, 1919-23; Part III.
