The fonds consists of photographs, postcards, diaries, scrapbooks, and miscellaneous printed material. The photographs show views of Manitoba; British Columbia, especially Victoria and Vancouver Island; travels in Banff, California and Boston; and pictures of Canadian military aircrew training during World War I in Ontario and Texas, probably taken by Robert Newton "Newt" Penman. The fonds includes William Penman's diaries and scrapbooks, one compiled during World War I by Alexander Cowie (d. 1930), a pioneer of the Comox Valley. Fonds includes postcards depicting places in Canada, the United States, the British Isles, and Jamaica.
