        Charles Holten arrived in Revelstoke in 1885 to work mining properties. He worked on the first trail from Robson to Nelson and was in charge of a government program for improvements at Kootenay rapids on the Columbia River. In 1897, he married Lydia Holten. He was involved in establishing and running many business enterprises, including the Revelstoke Water, Light and Power Company, the Revelstoke, Trout Lake and Big Bend Telephone Company, the Victoria Hotel, and the Enterprise Brewery.
