The family members represented in the the Haweis family fonds include Lionel Haweis, his father and mother Reverend Hugh Reginald and Mary Eliza Haweis, sister Hugolin Haweis and brother Stephen Haweis and assorted other relatives. The name is pronounced "Hoyse".
Hugh Reginald Haweis was an English scholar, author and lecturer. His wife, Mary Elizabeth Joy Haweis, was an author of women's and children's books whose book on Chaucer became a standard text for English schools. Their children included Lionel, who worked as a tea planter before moving to Vancouver to open a photography studio and later work at the UBC Library; Hugolin, a photographer, humourist and writer; and, Stephen, an artist. Lionel's daughter, Renee Haweis Chipman, was a writer who worked as assistant editor to Ma Murray and served in the Canadian Army Women's Corps. She established the Lillooet Museum and was its curator until her death in 1986.

The fonds consists of materials created, received or collected by various members of the Haweis family. The family members represented in the the Haweis family fonds include Lionel Haweis, his father and mother Reverend Hugh Reginald and Mary Eliza Haweis, sister Hugolin Haweis and brother Stephen Haweis and assorted other relatives.

Records generated by Lionel Haweis' daughter Renee Chipman which had been included in a preliminary Haweis family finding aid have now been re-described and are available as the Renee Chipman fonds.
